Here is a file which was recorded a few years back from a Q&A session in the Live Salafi Duroos room in Paltalk. Unfortunately, there are no records of exact date, name of Shaikh etc. However, it’s quite useful, as it talks about the eclipse, eclipse prayer, what to do, and how to pray the special prayer.

Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh

A sister, baarakallaahu feehaa, commented and asked:

“Do we have to see it by the naked eye?”

The answer from Sh. Ibn Baaz is as follows:

“It is authentically reported from the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam that he commanded the eclipse prayer, dhikr, and du’aa when the Muslims SEE the solar or lunar eclipse…”

“It is also known that it’s not legislated for the people of a place where the eclipse will not appear to pray, because the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam associated the command to pray and perform other actions with the SEEING of the eclipse, not by the sayings of astronomers that it might take place, nor by it taking place in another country/region…”

“He only prayed the eclipse prayer when the eclipse took place in Madeenah and people saw it…”

“Therefore the prayer is not legislated except for those who see the eclipse and it happens in their country/region.”

“Whoever exercises patience, then how little is the patience he will have to exercise. And whoever is impatient, then how little is the enjoyment he will have.”

One may think or feel that he/she has been patient “for sooo long”, forgetting that the dunyaa is but a passing phase that pales in comparison with the eternal bliss or punishment of the Hereafter.

It’s a challenge to always be mindful and comprehend the concepts of “temporariness” and “everlastingness”.

May Allaah ta’aalaa grant us patience upon obedience to Him, abstaning from sins, and being content with His decree. Aameen.

The above lines are attributed to Imam al-shaafi’ee in his Diwaan, in an online version of the diwaan, I found the a slightly longer piece:

إذا رمت أن تحيا سليماً من الردى *** ودينك موفـور وعرضـك صيـن
فلا ينطقن منـك اللسـان بسـوأةٍ *** فكلـك سـوؤات وللنـاس السـن
وعينـاك إن أبـدت إليـك معايبـاً *** فدعها وقل يا عين للنـاس أعيـن
وعاشر بمعروفٍ وسامح من اعتدى *** ودافع ولكن بالتـي هـي أحسـن

Although the Diwaan is his own work, there have often been speculations on whether everything in it actually goes back to him, wallaahu a’lam. Nevertheless, there’s definitely a lesson to learn here!”
